Stamford American International School Opening

Date: 19 Oct 2012

On 19 October 2012, Stamford American International School (SAIS) officially opened Phase 1 of its campus and announced its plans for Phase 2 of its development. SAIS will be offering the International Baccalaureate together with the American Curriculum. It currently has 1,000 students from Nursery to Grade 9 and intends to expand its cohort to 3,300 and offer programmes from Nursery to Grade 12 by 2014.

SAIS’s education curriculum includes efforts to integrate technology into students’ learning environment. Students in Singapore can interact in real time with guest lecturers and teachers from all over the world. As part of Phase 2 of its development, SAIS also intends to create the world’s first Innovation Center in a K-12 school. This includes a fully fitted out and functioning trade floor so that students of Stamford get to learn about the power of economics through witnessing and participating in actual trades.

The Innovation Center will enable students to acquire the skills and confidence they need to take their own ideas into the commercial world and make them successful,” said Mr Brian Rogove, CEO Asia Cognita. “By linking the education of our students with the realities of the commercial world we are giving students the best possible start on their careers as entrepreneurs and business leaders. This link with business demonstrates Stamford’s commitment to bridging the gap between an education for its own sake, and an education that prepares students for entry into the real world.”

Mr Teo Ser Luck, Minister of State for Trade and Industry welcomed SAIS’ presence in Singapore. “Children’s education was identified by executives as a critical factor driving decisions on overseas assignments. Good international schools are thus a necessary part of the infrastructure required for Singapore to remain an attractive place for MNCs and Asian enterprises to do business.”

Stamford American International School (Stamford) is the first school in Singapore to offer students both the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma and the American Advanced Placement (AP) – giving students an international experience with an American foundation.
