EDB believes in investing in talent and nurturing exceptional young people to be among the best brains in Singapore. Scholarships are awarded to young people with initiative, talent, and creativity, and who share the vision to lead Singapore into a knowledge-driven global economy. EDB scholars can choose to pursue their studies in top universities in countries such as the US, the UK, France, Germany, Japan and China.

For midterm scholarship candidates, EDB will consider undergraduates up to their final year of tertiary education and who are currently pursuing a degree in fields of engineering, sciences and economics.

What is the application process?

The EDB strongly encourages students to make their applications during the early cycle. The closing date for the early cycle is 31 October. For the main cycle, all scholarship applications should be submitted within two weeks of the release of the GCE A level results. For more details, please go to FAQs

Previously, scholarships from the Economic Development Board (EDB), Singapore Tourism Board (STB), International Enterprise Singapore (IES), JTC Corporation, SPRING Singapore and Energy Market Authority (EMA) were awarded under an umbrella alliance called the FIREfly scholarship.

In view of the different roles that each statutory board plays and the different career paths that will be offered, it has recently been decided that the individual statutory boards will market and administer our own respective scholarship programme(s).

The FIREfly scholarship umbrella alliance will cease to be applicable starting May 2010. Students are encouraged to find out about the scholarship programme(s) and career prospects directly from the respective organizations. Students are to apply separately to these agencies if you are interested in any of the scholarships offered by them.

What is the selection process?

We shortlist our scholars through a comprehensive selection process to ensure the integrity of our scholarship programme. For full scholarship candidates, the selection process involves interviews as well as a unique programme called Blaze Assessment Centre.

Blaze Assessment Centre is a full-day event with individual and team-based activities. Candidates will be assessed on their ability to lead and adapt, and also their communication and analytical thinking skills. Successful candidates will then be shortlisted for the final round of interviews.

During the final round of interviews, candidates will meet with the top management of EDB. Successful candidates will be awarded the EDB-scholarship and join our family of EDB scholars.

For midterm scholarship candidates, you are to apply for the EDB midterm scholarship via our structured summer internship programme. The EDB internship programme is for a minimum of eight weeks between May to September. Application for the EDB internship is open in Jan/Feb each year. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to return to EDB Headquarters in Singapore to go through a structured programme with the Board. Candidates who are further shortlisted from the completion of the internship programme will be invited to attend the final round of interviews.
