  • Singapore’s Jurong Island is among the world’s top 10 petrochemical hubs.

  • New crackers from ExxonMobil and Shell will increase Singapore’s total ethylene output from two million tonnes per annum (tpa) to four million tones per annum by year 2011.

  • Located on Jurong Island, the Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences (ICES) undertakes world class research programmes in developing new processes and applications for the chemical industry.

  • The Chemical Process Technology Centre was set up on Jurong Island in 2004 to support the training of new entrants to the chemical industry and to enhance the capabilities of existing professionals.  We are further enhancing the development of talent through our partnership with leading training provider, Petrofac. 

  • There are currently over 1000 specialty companies in Singapore, many of which include high profile companies such as 3M, Evonik Degussa, Huntsman and Siltronic.

  • Specialty chemicals are used widely in a diverse range of products that encompass markets from chemicals, electronics to food and automotive.
