Facts and Figures

  • In 2007, the Singapore government announced a total package of S$350 million for the clean energy industry, designed to intensify innovative research and development, and capability development for this industry.
  • By 2015, the clean energy industry is expected to contribute S$1.7 billion to Singapore's gross domestic product and create 7,000 jobs across a broad range of areas, including solar power, fuel cells, wind power, energy efficiency and carbon services.
  • CEPO has launched two complementary schemes to encourage testbedding. The first is the S$17 million Clean Energy Research & Testbedding Programme (CERT). The programme provides opportunities for government agencies to partner private companies to develop and testbed clean energy applications and solutions using government facilities in Singapore.

The second is the S$20 million Solar Capability Scheme, which was launched in 2008 to help companies offset part of the capital costs of installing solar technologies in new building projects.
  • The S$50 million CERP, launched by the Clean Energy Programme Office in 2007, supports both upstream and downstream commercially relevant R&D efforts through a competitive project funding approach.
  • Renewable Energy Corporation of Norway has chosen to build its new world-scale integrated solar manufacturing plant in Singapore after screening more than 200 possible locations. The company has invested some S$2.6 billion in its first phase expansion. The Singapore facility currently employs about 1,300 employees.  When fully developed, REC could produce up to 1.5GW of solar products in Singapore for global markets.
  • Vestas Wind Systems, the world’s top wind technology company, will invest up to S$500 million over the next 10 years in Singapore to develop its largest R&D centre outside of its home country of Denmark here. Vestas opened its regional headquarters in Singapore in 2007.
