The Clean Energy industry comprises a broad range of areas, including renewables, energy efficiency and carbon services. In Singapore, solar energy has been identified as the main focus area. Our strong capabilities in the electronics, precision engineering and chemicals sectors, coupled with manufacturing and process automation knowhow, an extensive supplier base and intellectual property protection place us in good stead to grow a world-class solar industry.
In early 2007, the National Research Foundation (NRF) and the Research, Innovation and Enterprise Council (RIEC) identified the clean energy industry as a strategic key growth industry for Singapore. A total of S$170 million was dedicated to develop these two industries. Together with funding from other governments, this forms a total of $350 million of funds for research and development, test-bedding and pilot projects in Clean Energy.
The Clean Energy Programme Office (CEPO) was set up in April 2007 to implement and coordinate the various research and test-bedding public programmes, leveraging on the strengths of various government agencies for a comprehensive approach to develop the Clean Energy industry.
