The Asia-Pacific region is home to a population of three billion people, and has an estimated economic growth rate of seven per cent per annum. Nestled at the heart of this vibrant region is the city state of Singapore, host to some 47 local and foreign organizations, comprising industry and professional organizations, non-governmental organizations, philanthropic organizations, inter-governmental organizations and think tanks.
Singapore provides a conducive business and networking environment for international organizations who are interested in a location in Asia for its regional or global activities, such as regional headquarters, global conferences, research and development, as well as the raising and management of funds.
To facilitate interested international organizations in setting up base in Singapore, a dedicated International Organizations Programme Office has been established. The IO Programme Office represents a whole-of-government initiative which will provide one-stop-shop of assistance and information to organisations looking to establish a presence in Singapore. The Office will also continue to assist the organisations’ needs after they are established in Singapore. Singapore is currently home to more than 60 IOs, including major players in a variety of fields such as World Vision International and the International Air Transport Association. EDB aims to have 150 such organizations in Singapore by 2015.
The IO Programme Office is a multi-agency set-up led by the Economic Development Board in partnership with the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB). It is supported by and works closely with various Ministries and agencies throughout the government.
