Baxter International Inc. announced the expansion of its Singapore manufacturing facility, with the addition of a biopharmaceutical facility. This facility will carry out bulk production for ADVATE®, the recombinant factor VIII (rFVIII) therapy that is free of blood-based additives, to meet the growing needs of people living with hemophilia A. This investment will create about 230 new jobs at the Singapore facility.
“Once the Singapore facility begins production, ADVATE will be the only recombinant factor VIII therapy produced at three separate locations, providing the unprecedented security of a triple-source manufacturing capability,” said Phil Batchelor, Vice President, Global Operations for Baxter’s Bioscience business.
While this marks the first time Baxter is producing ADVATE in Asia, the company has had a long standing presence in Singapore, producing a number of products – such as IV solution sets and renal dialysis products – at the site for the past 31 years. The Singapore facility, established in 1978, today, is a one-million-square-foot facility that houses three plants manufacturing products that are marketed in over 60 countries.
“The building of this new production facility for ADVATE will significantly enhance the manufacturing capabilities of Baxter's Woodlands facility. It showcases not only the company's state-of-the art manufacturing expertise but our continued confidence in Singapore to make this a success," said Eng Chye Ong, General Manager of Baxter Healthcare SA, Singapore.
