The Remanufacturing Division of Caterpillar Inc, the world's largest manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, and industrial gas turbines, set up a full-fledged 135-man remanufacturing facility in Singapore dedicated to serving the mining markets. The facility will service the mining markets in the Asian region, primarily Indonesia (80% of Cat's Asian mining remanufacturing business) and Australia. As remanufacturing requires the use of unique repair capabilities termed by Cat as "Salvage Technology", Cat is also establishing a 20-man Remanufacturing Development Centre. Mr Tan Choon Shian, Deputy Managing Director of the Singapore Economic Development Board, was the guest-of-honour at the official opening ceremony.
