Coherent held an opening event for their manufacturing operations of laser modules and systems in Singapore. These will be used to enable sensing and cutting functions in complex equipment for solar cell / semiconductor manufacturing, medical equipment and scientific instruments. Based in Santa Clara, Coherent, Inc. Coherent is a supplier of photonics-based solutions for commercial and scientific research applications. The company designs, manufactures and markets lasers, precision optics and related accessories. CI's products address a range of markets such as microelectronics, materials processing, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) components and instrumentation, and scientific research and government programs. "We selected Singapore for our first acquisition in the Asia region because of the country's distinctive assets including a skilled multi-cultural work force, business friendly policies and a strong commitment to intellectual property protection.
