Gawad Kalinga, a movement in the Philippines that has transformed thousands of slums into vibrant communities by removing poverty and restoring human dignity, forms a regional arm in Singapore called Gawad Kalinga Hope Initiative (“GK Hi”). GK Hi, an International Charitable Organisation will use Singapore as a base for serving humanitarian and social needs, eradicating slums in Asia's poverty stricken areas. It will also connect industry partners and their expertise with the communities served by GK in the Philippines.
Mr Jonathan Kua, Director of International Organisations Programme Office (IOPO) at the Singapore Economic Development Board, views the opening as a significant addition to the International Organisations landscape. “The opening of GK Hi is an important step forward in our efforts to build the international non profit sector in Singapore. We are happy to be a strategic base for GK Hi to serve the development needs of communities in Asia and will continue to engage non-profit organisations that are doing good work in the region.”
