Google announced the start of construction on their data center in Singapore, their first in Southeast Asia, breaking ground on the new facility. The ground breaking ceremony for this facility was held in Jurong West.
Julian Persaud, Head of Google Southeast Asia said: "Building this first data center in Southeast Asia is an exciting step and an important investment, reaching USD120 million, in better serving our users across the region. New users are coming online every day in Asia than anywhere else in the world, looking for information and entertainment, new business opportunities and better ways to connect with friends and family, near and far. We’re building to provide our users here the fastest and most reliable possible access to all our services, so they can do just that."
Jayson Goh, Executive Director of the Economic Development Board (EDB), said: "We are very pleased that Google chose Singapore to build its first data center Asia, further expanding Google's investment here, where the company maintains its regional headquarters, and complementing our efforts to turn Singapore into a global data management hub."
