IM Flash Singapore (IMFS) is a NAND flash memory wafer fabrication joint venture formed between Intel Corporation (Intel), the world’s largest semiconductor company, and Micron Technology Inc (Micron), the world's second largest semiconductor memory company. In Jan 2010, IMFS decided to restart the implementation of its wafer fabrication facility in Singapore after putting the project on hold in 2008 due to the memory downturn and global financial crisis. The company's state-of-the-art 300 millimetre (mm) wafer fabrication facility will produce flash memory devices at 25 nanometre (nm) and beyond.
IMFS will also grow to become Singapore's largest semiconductor wafer fabrication facility by production capacity and in doing so, increase Singapore's total wafer fabrication output by about 15% and lead to significant spin-offs for supporting industries (e.g. semiconductor equipment, specialty gases and chemicals). Furthermore, as a state-of-the-art 300mm wafer fabrication facility from two industry leaders with strong brand recognition, IMFS will demonstrate Singapore's competitiveness for highly advanced semiconductor manufacturing and help to attract even more semiconductor investments here.
