Menicon opens R&D and manufacturing facility in Singapore
Menicon Singapore, a subsidiary of Menicon Co., Ltd, Japan's first and largest contact lens manufacturer, opened its new R&D and manufacturing facility today. This is the company's first manufacturing facility in the world producing daily disposable contact lenses, and will also house Menicon's first R&D centre in Asia outside Japan. In addition to producing daily disposable contact lenses, the new facility is slated to become a hub for the development of new technologies in the contact lens industry, complementing research conducted in Japan. Menicon Singapore will utilise technology developed locally in Singapore to produce high-function disposable contact lenses.
The new S$123-million dollar facility, which features quality control systems and unique state-of-the-art manufacturing technology developed by Menicon, was officially opened by Mr S Iswaran, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry and Education.
