Lucite International, the number one global producer of Methyl Methacrylate (MMA), will officially open the world’s first Alpha MMA plant on Jurong Island. The plant, which has a capacity of 120kte per annum, is the first in a series of state-of-the-art Alpha-based production facilities being built globally by Lucite.
Lucite’s patented Alpha technology is high-yield and low-cost, requiring lower capital investment than the existing process technologies. As a result, it has the potential to deliver a substantial cost advantage over conventional MMA technology. The Singapore plant will complement the Company’s existing facilities in China, the USA, Europe, Japan and Taiwan and the technology will be central to the success of the company's strategy for global growth.
Mr Ian Lambert, CEO of Lucite International, said: “The successful launch of Lucite’s first Alpha plant is the impressive result of over 10 years of dedication and innovation from our R&D team. It is also thanks to our hard working and well-trained staff here in Singapore. We chose Singapore as the location for our first Alpha plant because of its proximity to the Asian market and its established position within the global chemical industry. We are delighted to be launching our new patented Alpha technology and are honored to be marking this important day with the Singapore authorities, who have given us unparalleled support over the years.”
