China Unicom is one of Asia's top telcos. This is a significant milestone for their internationalisation efforts into the region. In addition to their regional office, China Unicom has setup a point-of-presence in a local data centre, which will improve Singapore's bandwidth connectivity to China. China Unicom can leverage on Singapore’s excellent market and network connectivity, quality telecoms infrastructure, as well as global talent to tap into these new markets. China Unicom joins more than 3,000 other Chinese companies that have set up operations in Singapore to manage their businesses and support their growing customer base in Singapore and the region. This market expansion is driven by the rapid growth of online content, and it presents opportunities for telecom service providers such as China Unicom. In fact, IDC expects that the Southeast Asia telecommunication services market, to reach US$36.1 billion in 2010, which is 8 percent higher than its 2009 performance.
