Singapore to lead the way with carbon management tool pilot
The CarbonNeutral Company, a world-leading provider of carbon reductions solutions, is to pilot an innovative web based carbon management solution supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board as part of the Urban Solutions Programme. Within the pilot, six leading organisations will measure and manage their carbon emissions online in order to develop offset inclusive carbon reduction programmes that will reduce costs, build a strong environmental position and prepare them for future regulations.
The solution combines CarbonView, a web based carbon management tool software, developed by international supply chain consultancy Viewlocity, with the carbon reductions expertise of The CarbonNeutral Company. Due to the global capability of the software, this initiative will facilitate the use of internationally approved methodologies, to be used by all industry sectors, to produce a robust and uniform baseline measurement of greenhouse gas emissions in Singapore.
The leading organisations that will participate in the carbon management pilot are City Developments Limited, WongPartnership LLP, Jebsen & Jessen (SEA) Pte Ltd, Pan-United Concrete Pte Ltd, Drydocks World – Singapore Pte Ltd and The National University of Singapore. The CarbonNeutral Company will work closely with these organisations to help them measure their carbon footprints and then develop offset inclusive carbon reduction strategies.
Goh Chee Kiong, Director for Cleantech and Programme Director for Urban Solutions, Singapore Economic Development Board said, “As a small and highly urbanised city state, carbon management is a key capability that Singapore needs to develop to enhance its competitiveness in a carbon-constrained global economy. As rapid urbanisation takes place around the world, cities are starting to face challenges similar to those of Singapore; this innovative carbon management pilot not only has the potential to address Singapore’s emissions reduction needs but can also be scaled up for use in other cities and countries as a methodology to reducing emissions.”
