Statement by EDB on closure of UNSW Asia |
|
| |
1. The University of New South Wales (UNSW) Australia has taken the decision to discontinue the operation of its Asia campus in Singapore with effect from 28 June 2007. UNSW has taken this difficult decision on business grounds after careful thought and due consideration.
2. Mr Ko Kheng Hwa, Managing Director, EDB said, “We regret that UNSW has decided to close the Singapore campus. EDB has been fully committed and has worked closely with UNSW from day one towards the establishment of its Singapore campus.”
3. “EDB welcomes the effort that UNSW is making to minimise disruption to the students currently enrolled in its Singapore campus. We will provide UNSW any facilitation it may require.”
4. There are many areas of cooperation between UNSW and Singapore which are mutually beneficial, such as foundation schooling for university entry, research collaborations, University of New South Wales school competitions and joint programmes with Singapore institutions. EDB will continue to pursue these areas and strengthen its relationship with UNSW.
5. “EDB will push ahead with our efforts to realise Singapore’s Global Schoolhouse vision. We are fully committed to developing Singapore into a premier education hub comprising a rich diversity of high quality education institutions and programmes from all over the world.”
