3M committed to growing its business from Singapore |

3M Singapore has grown from its humble beginning as a trading company in 1996 with eight employees to 900 employees today with a turnover in excess of $300 million.

Today, its presence in Singapore include a $400 million manufacturing plant in Woodlands which saw its operations expand to include an Optoelectronics Centre of Excellence, and a 3M headquarters with 100 employees working with six market centres throughout the region.
Commented Mr Teo Ming Kian, Chairman EDB at 3M's Century of Innovation dinner: "These are the types of knowledgeintensive activities that would help Singapore evolve as an innovationdriven economy."
He said there was much that Singapore could learn from 3M as it tries to develop a more innovative and entrepreneurial mindset in order to move into a knowledge and innovation-driven globalised economy.
Mr Teo said Singapore had introduced several initiatives to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship. They include the Technopreneurship 21 programme to encourage innovation, the Singapore Innovation Award to recognise innovative contributions and the Startup EnterprisE Development Scheme (SEEDS) to provide equity financing for start-ups.
He added that EDB would continue to enhance Singapore's creative environment by developing an innovative culture and championing the cause of building Singapore into a global innovation hub. |
