Company finds Singapore a "fitting hub" for its operations
Volvo East Asia (Pte) Ltd, the regional arm of transport equipment giant Volvo, is bringing its different business units under one roof by building a state-of-the-art headquarters in Jurong. Construction started in July and the company expects to move into the building by September next year.
The new 18,527 sq m facility will be the regional HQ for Volvo's five units, involved in bus, truck, construction equipment, marine equipment and aerospace operations. Singapore is also a regional hub for Volvo's parts distribution network and various manufacturing operations.
At the ground-breaking, Mr Keith Ellis, head of Volvo's construction equipment business in the region, said: "All of the Volvo businesses in the region have expanded over the past few years. This new custom designed facility reflects our commitment to continued expansion in the region, and our faith in Singapore as a fitting hub for our operations."
Volvo East Asia's new headquarters will be home to 135 employees, and will house an expanded regional parts distribution centre, a training centre for Volvo's dealers and customers, an open storage yard, and a refurbishment and customisation workshop.

Mr Manohar Khiatani, EDB Director, Logistics and Transport, said one of the key factors for Volvo's growth is Singapore's unique connectivity, including physical connectivity, cyberlinks, free trade agreements, and Singapore's people network.
Such broad connectivity is critical in supporting complex supply chain networks and headquarters operations. Not surprisingly, Singapore currently hosts the regional functions of four of the top six automotive companies and three of the top five construction equipment manufacturers, including Volvo. |
