Icon for media and technology in Singapore and the world
Yet another exciting innovation is coming out at one-north, Singapore's icon of the knowledge economy where talents gravitate to naturally and where diverse ideas thrive. With a focus on knowledge-intensive activities in critical growth sectors, onenorth would provide an intellectually stimulating and creative physical environment for entrepreneurs, scientists and researchers to congregate, interact and exchange ideas.
We have already heard of the Biopolis, a dedicated R & D facility within one-north. Then there is Phase Z-Ro Technopreneur Park that has become a community of 60 local and foreign start-up IT companies. Recently, Nanyang Technological University broke ground for its city campus cum alumni house.
The newest kid on the block is Fusionpolis. It will be home to an active community of researchers, content creators, financiers and other industry players from all over the world in the infocomms, media and education sectors.

At the launch of Fusionpolis in February, guests and the media were told that it would be "a place where people from different disciplines connect, and new ideas and initiatives arise from the fusion of their efforts." There will be shared facilities such as production and audio studios and rendering farms and satellite teleports - neweconomy infrastructure not just for the production of media contents but also for experimentation with media and technology.
There will be sky gardens, fullyfurnished apartments, supermarkets and an MRT station on the Cir cle Line.
In his concept outline for Fusionpolis, renowned Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa, had said it would be a "layered city" with different areas and different levels for people to work, live, play and learn .
Phase 1 of Fusionpolis is expected to be completed in 2005. |
