Project and construction management specialist, PM Group, has set up its regional headquarters (RHQ) in Singapore to spearhead the company's expansion in Asia-Pacific after securing a number of pharmaceutical and food industry contracts in the region.

Besides providing services in project and construction management, PM Group's portfolio also includes provision of services in architectural and engineering design as well as a range of technical and consulting services to the biopharmaceutical, food, healthcare, infrastructure and advanced technology sectors.

The Ireland-based company has clinched contracts worth more than S$685 million (US$500 million), in collaboration with its strategic integrated services partner, M+W Zander, in China and Singapore. The RHQ will act as a springboard for PM Group to support biopharmaceutical projects throughout Asia-Pacific, serving as a base for regional management and administrative services for its operations.

Singapore is the hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing in Asia with Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API), secondary and biotechnology manufacturing capabilities. According to the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), Singapore's biomedical sciences manufacturing output surpassed S$24 billion (US$17.5 billion) in 2007, accounting for close to six per cent of the country's GDP.

"It is with this backdrop that we have made the decision to set up the regional headquarters in Singapore, at the heart of a region which is attracting major infrastructure investments from the global pharmaceutical industry," says Fintan Cassidy, Regional Manager, PM Group.

Its presence is expected to add depth to the thriving local industry and sustain its competitive edge. "We believe that Singapore continues to remain the destination of choice for high value manufacturing and R&D investments. Service providers such as PM Group play a critical role in making Singapore an attractive destination for continued biomedical sciences investments," says Yeoh Keat Chuan, Executive Director, Biomedical Sciences, EDB.
