Vicky Richardson

Head of Design, Fashion and Architecture of the British Council

Vicky Richardson is Director of Architecture, Design, Fashion at the British Council. She is currently overseeing more than 15 projects around the world, including travelling exhibitions, publications, exchanges, residencies and talks.

She is Commissioner for the British Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale, which opens next summer. For 2012 her department is also planning an ambitious programme of events in partnership with London's embassies - the International Architecture and Design Showcase - as part of the Cultural Olympiad.

As a member of the London Mayor's Cultural Strategy Group, Vicky is also an adviser to the Mayor on culture and creative industries.

Vicky was previously Editor of Blueprint magazine; and Deputy Editor of RIBA Journal. She has a degree in architecture from the University of Westminster. She also studied Fine Art (Painting) at Chelsea School of Art and took a Foundation Course in Art at Central St Martins.

Her published books include New Vernacular Architecture (Laurence King, 2002) and In Defence of the Dome (ASI, 1999). She continues to write about architecture and design for a number of publications, as well as the British Council's design blog, Back of the Envelope.
