On 18 May 2016, US chemical firm DuPont launched its Thermo-Man testing facility in Singapore. As DuPont’s first thermal protection testing unit in Asia-Pacific, the facility aims to facilitate collaborations between DuPont and manufacturers in the region on the development of innovative design and material to enhance personal protection equipment and protective equipment.

"Our new facility provides customers in the Asia Pacific region easier access to DuPont's full suite of services, even allowing them to witness product testing in person," said Dr Zhang Yi, Global Business Director of DuPont Nomex Enterprise, at the inauguration of the facility. "The decreased time between prototyping, testing and development will enable our customers to react swiftly to market needs. Supporting the fast-paced innovation and research in the region, this advanced testing facility will help to save lives by simulating worst-case scenarios with real-world factors to achieve advancements in worker safety protection."
Guests at the event witnessed a live demonstration of the Thermo-man, in which a mannequin clad in DuPont’s flame-resistant garment, Nomex, was subjected to a flash fire of up to 1,000 degrees.
Ms Cindy Koh, Director, Energy & Chemicals, EDB, said that investments like DuPont's facility reinforced Singapore's value as a strategic base, saying "Companies can leverage Singapore's research ecosystem and geographical proximity to their customers to quickly develop solutions and tackle complex problems."
