Vopak opens LPG facility on Jurong Island

On 15 Jun 2016, Vopak Terminals officially opened South-east Asia’s first independent refrigerated liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) facility at its Banyan Terminal on Jurong Island. It will provide Singapore’s crackers with an alternative feedstock to naphtha. The 80,000 cu m facility is an 80:20 partnership between Vopak and SK Gas International Pte Ltd.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Frits Eulderink, Chief Operating Officer and Chairman of Vopak Terminals Singapore, said the ‘independent LPG facility will cater to rising need for a competitive, cost-effective alternative feedstock to naphtha” and that the facility will feed Asia’s growing demand for LPG.

Mr Lim Kok Kiang, Assistant Managing Director of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) said that improving feedstock optionality is the key strategic focus under the Jurong Island version 2.0 initiative as it improves the competitiveness of Singapore’s energy and chemicals cluster.
