Our work with Singapore goes back to 2023, when we joined the Generative AI Evaluation Sandbox run by the Infocomm Media Development Authority and the AI Verify Foundation. We later partnered with them on a red-teaming project in English, Mandarin, Malay, and Tamil.
Under the MOU, we plan to hold technical exchanges with Singapore’s AI safety, security, and assurance institutions on model evaluation, testing standards, and incident response. We do similar work with safety institutes around the world, where sharing technical information provides governments with a clearer view of frontier AI capabilities and risks, while helping developers build safer models.
We’ll also look for ways to strengthen AI skills in Singapore, help small and medium-sized businesses adopt AI responsibly, and support the government’s goal of building AI capability among public officers. We plan to share research and data with the government, including from the Anthropic Economic Index, and to offer technical and policy expertise as Singapore develops its rules for AI.
How Singapore is working with Claude
In our latest Economic Index, Singapore ranks second of 121 countries in Claude.ai usage relative to its population, at nearly six times what its size alone would predict.
In the public sector, more than 1,500 engineers and technical staff at the Government Technology Agency of Singapore (GovTech Singapore) have adopted Claude Code to modernize government systems and speed up software delivery. This has helped GovTech teams build, maintain, and enhance digital services more efficiently at national scale. The Cyber Security Agency of Singapore is exploring how Claude could help strengthen the country’s cyber defense.
In financial services, DBS, Southeast Asia’s largest bank, works with Claude across a range of use cases in its Singapore operations—including software development and day-to-day productivity—as part of its broader AI innovation efforts. These applications operate within the bank’s strict security and governance framework. GIC, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, is rolling out Claude across its investment and corporate services teams. Organizations in regulated sectors like financial services can now run Claude with in-region inference on Amazon Bedrock, helping them meet strict data processing requirements.
Singapore’s largest technology companies and startups are building with Claude too. Grab powers BriX, its sales assistant, with Claude. The assistant saves Grab’s sales teams approximately 40,000 hours every quarter and surfaces new sales opportunities. Sea—the business behind Shopee, Garena, and Monee—works with Claude to help Shopee’s customer service chatbot respond faster and more accurately, and thousands of its employees write and debug code with Claude. And Supabase—the developer platform with strong roots in Singapore—is building with Claude Code.
Building with the developer community
This week, senior leaders from Anthropic are in Singapore to open the office and meet with customers, developers, and policymakers.
Today, we hosted Builder Summit Singapore, bringing more than 300 developers together with engineering and product leaders from Anthropic. Earlier in the week, Singapore’s Claude community ambassadors held a meetup for more than 400 local builders.
