Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

This website is operated by the Economic Development Board ("EDB", "we", "us", or "our"), a Singapore Government Agency. We are committed to protecting your personal data and respecting your privacy.

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect when you visit our website, how we use it, who we share it with, and what rights you have. We collect, process and use personal data in accordance with the content of this privacy policy and the applicable data protection laws. 

In principle, you can use the information we provide on this website without providing any personal data. Where we do require personal data from you, this will be made clear at the point of collection.

If you are a user from the European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA), additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR") apply to you. These are noted where relevant throughout this policy. 

2. What data we collect

We may collect the following categories of personal data when you visit or interact with our website: 

Automatically collected data: We automatically collect and stores information in so-called server log files, which your browser automatically transmits to us. These include browser type and browser version, used operating system, referrer URL, hostname of the accessing computer, time of the server request, and IP address. 

Data you provide to us: In some cases, we require personal information from you, for example when you send us an e-mail inquiry. This includes name, company, address, e-mail address and contact data. 

Data collected through third-party tools: Where you interact with third-party features on our website (such as embedded videos or social media tools), those providers may collect additional data as described in Section 5. 

3. How we collect your data

We collect personal data through the following means:

Cookies and tracking technologies: We may use cookies, log files and other technologies which process personal information and data to make our website more user-friendly. Some elements of our website require that the calling browser can be identified even after a page change. Additionally, we may use cookies on our website, which enable us to analyse the surfing behaviour of our users to enhance the performance of EDB websites. If not strictly necessary for EDB websites to run, cookies will only process personal information after consent is given by the website's user. 

Contact forms: Contact forms on our website facilitate a range of functions, including applications to programmes, enquiries to our service providers, event registrations, connections with public and private organisations, downloads of publications, and other related activities available on the website. Your details from the enquiry form including the contact data you provided will be stored by us for the purposes of processing the enquiry, and in some instances, for establishment of contact to better understand how to best assist you. 

Newsletter: If you wish to receive the newsletter offered on the website, we require an e-mail address from you as well as the information in the subscription form. We may use subscription information to administer newsletter subscription, provide requested communication, and where appropriate respond to related enquiries.  

4. How we use your data

We use your personal data only to the extent necessary and for the purposes for which it was collected. These purposes include:

Providing and improving our services, such as delivering the website to your device, subscribing to and providing the EDB newsletter, enabling downloads of business guides, research or industry reports, and enhancing your overall website experience. 

Measuring and analysing our services, such as measuring conversions, analysing advertisement performance, and improving the quality of our website and its contents. 

Responding to your enquiries, including processing contact form submissions and follow-up communications related to investment enquiries, the Global Investor Programme, and other EDB services.

Personal information is used by EDB and its service providers for different purposes but is only used to the extent of users' given consent. 

5. Cookies and third-party tools

Cookies

Our website uses cookies. As soon as you visit our website, we will give you the opportunity to choose between different cookie settings. Unless the cookies are necessary for the operation of the website, the cookies will only be set after you have given your consent.

Most of the cookies we use are so-called "session cookies". They are automatically deleted at the end of your visit. Other cookies remain stored on your device until you delete them. These cookies enable us to recognise your browser during your next visit. 

You can manage or withdraw your cookie preferences at any time via the Cookie Preferences link in our site footer or through your browser settings. Please note that disabling certain cookies may affect the functionality of our website. 

Third-party tools 

We use third-party tools on our website to serve purposes such as web analytics, advertising and marketing, CRM and recruitment. These tools may use cookies and other technologies to collect data about your interaction with our website like browsing patterns and actions. This is based on our legitimate interest to enhance user experience and support certain functions of our website where applicable. You can manage your preferences for interest-based advertising through your account settings on the respective platforms or via your cookie preferences. 

Embedded content 

We have included YouTube videos on our website, which are stored on www.youtube.com and can be played directly from our website. These are all integrated in the "extended data protection mode", meaning no data about you as a user will be transmitted to YouTube if you do not play the videos. Only when you play the videos will data be transferred to YouTube. We have no influence on this data transfer. 

6. Data sharing and recipients

We do not sell your personal data. We may share your data in the following circumstances: 

Singapore Government Agencies: Personal information will not be shared with third parties without the user's consent. EDB is a Singapore Government Agency. Personal data may be shared with other relevant Singaporean Government Agencies for processing of a submitted application is submitted  or to serve you in the most efficient and effective manner. 

Service providers, vendors and business partners: Personal data may be transferred to designated third parties, on a case-by-case basis, if an application is submitted via our contact forms and previous user consent was obtained.

Third-party tools: As described in Section 5, certain third-party tools integrated into our website may process your data on our behalf. These providers act as data processors and are bound by appropriate data processing agreements. 

7. International data transfers

User data may be transferred or processed in countries other than the country in which you are resident. Users should be aware that these countries may have data protection and privacy laws that are different to the laws of your country. However, we take appropriate safeguards to ensure that your user data remains protected in accordance with this Privacy Policy. 

These safeguards include transferring user data to countries which have been deemed to provide an adequate level of protection by the European Commission, or to companies implementing the Standard Contractual Clauses adopted by the European Commission for transfers of personal information outside of the EU/EEA.

8. Data retention

In general, we will retain relevant personal information of site visitors for at least two years from the date of our last interaction with you and in compliance with our obligations under applicable laws, or as long as necessary to fulfill any legal or business purposes. 

For newsletter subscribers, the data you have sent to us for the purpose of subscribing to the newsletter will be stored by us until you unsubscribe from the newsletter and deleted after you cancel the newsletter. This does not affect data stored by us for other purposes. 

9. Your rights

You have the following rights in relation to your personal data held by us: 

Right to access and information: Within the framework of the applicable legal provisions, you have the right to obtain information free of charge at any time about your stored personal data, its origin and recipients and the purpose of the data processing and, if applicable, a right to correct, block or delete this data. You can contact us at any time at the address given below for this purpose and for further questions about personal data. 

Right to withdraw consent: Many data processing operations are only possible with your express consent. You can revoke a previously given consent at any time. For this purpose, an informal notification by e-mail is sufficient. 

Right to data portability: You have the right to have data which we process automatically, on the basis of your consent or in fulfilment of a contract, handed over to you or to another responsible person in a common, machine-readable format. If you request the direct transfer of the data to another responsible person, this will only be done as far as it is technically feasible.

Right to object: If we have a legitimate interest in processing data, you have the right at any time to object to the processing of personal data concerning you for reasons arising from your particular situation; this also applies to profiling. 

(a). Further rights of data subjects in the European Union ("EU") 

 For EU/EEA users, you are additionally entitled to the right to rectification (Article 16 GDPR), the right to erasure (Article 17 GDPR), the right to restriction of processing (Article 18 GDPR), the right to data portability (Article 20 GDPR), and the right not to be subject to automated decision-making (Article 22 GDPR).

Without prejudice to any other administrative or judicial remedy, you have the right to appeal to a supervisory authority, in particular in the Member State of your residence, place of work or alleged infringement, if you consider that the processing of your personal data is in breach of the GDPR. 10. Changes to this policy

We reserve the right to adapt this privacy policy at any time with effect for the future so that it always corresponds to the current legal requirements or in order to implement changes to our services in the privacy policy, for example with the introduction of new services. Please therefore look at the privacy policy again the next time you visit us. 

Where changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to bring them to your attention.
