Singapore's Digital Economy nominal value-added reached S$144.1 billion in 2025 (19.3% of GDP), up from S$136.5 billion (18.8% of GDP) in 2024, growing 5.6% year-on-year, faster than the 3.1% nominal GDP growth1. Today, Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), the world’s digital infrastructure company®, announced the opening of SG6, its sixth International Business Exchange (IBX) data center in Singapore, setting a global innovation and sustainability benchmark for the digital infrastructure industry to support the nation’s digital economy. The opening ceremony was graced by Mr. Tan Kiat How, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Digital Development and Information.
As the first facility in Equinix’s portfolio built under the Singapore Government's Data Centre – Call for Application (DC-CFA) process, SG6 is designed to reconcile the performance and density requirements of AI and data-intensive workloads with Singapore’s strict national sustainability mandates. This state-of-the-art facility brings together sustainably-designed, high-performance infrastructure, private interconnection, and global ecosystems of enterprises, cloud providers and technology partners, enabling businesses in Singapore to responsibly innovate, scale and connect to opportunities worldwide.
SG6 represents Equinix’s commitment to helping Singapore realize its global digital ambitions while ensuring sustainability goes hand-in-hand with technological growth and innovation. Through its Future First sustainability strategy, Equinix is advancing ambitious environmental goals, including science-based net-zero emissions targets by 2040 and 100% global renewable energy coverage by 2030. Equinix is committed to being a responsible neighbor, working closely with the communities where it operates to ensure its facilities benefit the people who live and work around them. These commitments strongly support and complement the country’s broader sustainability and decarbonization agenda.
SG6 operating temperatures will meet the ASHRAE A1A standard. It also features several energy-efficient innovations, including proprietary cooling array technology and liquid-cooling to support high-density AI deployments and power-intensive GPU infrastructure. In addition, SG6 incorporates onsite renewable energy generation through solar photovoltaic panels installed on the rooftop and the facade of the building, contributing to its 100% clean and renewable energy coverage. The facility, designed with Singapore’s Green DC Roadmap in mind, also boasts several other green building features such as efficient water management systems.
In support of Singapore’s innovation ecosystem, SG6 will host a Co-Innovation Facility (CIF) in partnership with the National University of Singapore Energy Solutions Hub, targeted to open in 2027. The facility will advance data center sustainability and energy innovation by focusing on emerging technologies such as liquid cooling, cognitive digital twins, and battery energy storage. The CIF will provide a platform to test and scale new solutions that support Singapore’s digital and AI ambitions while enabling industry and academia to experiment with emerging use cases and translate innovative ideas into real-world applications.
Equinix has operated in Singapore since 2002, has grown from one facility to six data centers in the country and remains committed to investing in the country’s people, partners and communities for the long term. Earlier in August 2026, Equinix was also announced as one of the four data center operators awarded capacity under the second DC-CFA.
Highlights/Key Facts:
