SAP Labs and the National University of Singapore (NUS) announced on Wednesday (19 Mar) a collaboration to train artificial intelligence (AI) researchers.
Under the Industrial Postgraduate Programme supported by the Economic Development Board (EDB), SAP Labs Singapore will hire and train nine researchers for its AI team by the end of 2030. These researchers will be recruited from NUS.
“SAP’s collaboration with NUS through the Industrial Postgraduate Programme will further strengthen the pipeline of AI talent in Singapore,” said Chan Ih-ming, executive vice president of EDB. “It is a tangible example of an industry-academia partnership that equips our researchers with deep research capabilities to develop innovative AI solutions that are enterprise-centric.”
SAP Labs is the research and development arm of German software giant SAP.
This move follows on from an earlier commitment by SAP Labs to hire 200 AI engineers in Singapore, announced back in June 2023.
SAP Labs said that it has met that commitment and trebled its headcount in the past three years to 420.
SAP Labs’ Singapore location has played a pivotal role for the software giant, with a number of AI-related patents filed locally.
Manik Saha, managing director of SAP Labs Singapore and Vietnam, said: “Not only have we nearly tripled our staff while continuing to nurture future talent, (but) we’ve also pushed the boundaries of what AI can do for enterprises, going beyond experiments to deliver AI solutions that truly make a difference in people’s day-to-day work.”
