This press release was issued by NX Group.

Nippon Express (Singapore) Pte Ltd; hereinafter “NXSG”, a group company of NIPPON EXPRESS HOLDINGS, INC., has expanded its Global Logistics Hub in Singapore’s western area of Tuas.

The expansion, supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) and JTC, significantly increases NX SG’s operational footprint in Singapore by close to 30%. This strategic investment underscores the company's commitment to optimising global supply chains and leveraging Singapore's crucial role as a global logistics and trade nexus.

Key highlights of the new facility:

  • Expanded capacity: The revitalised facility adds 100,000 square feet of high-tech logistics space, bringing the NX Group's total footprint in Singapore to 1.1 million square feet.
  • Sustainability upgrades: The logistics facility is now equipped with a photovoltaic (PV) system, cutting carbon emissions by 771 metric tons per annum. All existing diesel forklifts have been upgraded to electric forklifts to further reduce emissions.
  • Enhanced workplace safety: Using AI-powered technology, the facility improves worker safety by detecting risks on the shopfloor and alerting operators to mitigate potential dangers.
  • Advanced capabilities: The facility is retrofitted with both ambient and temperature-controlled environments to meet sophisticated, end-to-end supply chain demands from diverse customers.
  • Automation and productivity: Operations will be highly automated to boost productivity and efficiency. The space is equipped with a combination of advanced storage solutions, including Four-way Shuttle Racking, Narrow-Aisle Racking, AutoStore, and T-sorting systems, optimising storage capacity and throughput.
  • Job creation and workforce advancement: This investment will not only generate employment opportunities for locals but also cultivate a highly skilled, future-ready local workforce, ensuring long-term sustainable growth and a competitive advantage. NX SG is also actively upskilling its employees with in-demand skills including data collection, visualisation and analytics to drive business insights and decision making.

Poised for future growth

This expansion is timed to capitalise on future growth opportunities, particularly the development of the Tuas Port and the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ). The expanded Tuas facility will complement NX Group’s warehouse in the Port of Tanjung Pelepas, enhancing cross-border trucking and facilitating seamless local distribution.

The expanded hub enhances the value propositions of the NX Group, offering customers resilient and agile supply chain strategies across the region.

The NX Group remains dedicated to supporting its customers' businesses by providing world-class logistics services, with the ultimate goal of building high-quality, sustainable global logistics platforms.

"Our investment in this expansion is fundamentally about serving our customers better. It directly translates to a more robust and agile supply chain, providing the essential capacity to meet surging demand – a critical factor that underpins our strategy for sustainable growth and market leadership in this vital region."
