The Nature Conservancy (TNC), a global environmental nonprofit, today announced an expansion of its Singapore team to generate high-quality, nature-based carbon credits. Leveraging Singapore’s position as a leading carbon services and trading hub in the region, TNC will establish a dedicated carbon project development team, creating new roles in areas vital to the success of nature-based carbon projects such as community engagement, applied science, monitoring, evaluation, and learning, as well as financial modeling and planning.
TNC will evaluate potential nature-based carbon projects that are aligned with Singapore’s International Carbon Credit (ICC) Framework and located in countries where Singapore has signed Implementation Agreements or Memorandums of Understanding on carbon credits collaboration under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. The team will originate and conduct feasibility studies for the proposed carbon projects, which entails key activities such as overall project design, carbon accounting, local stakeholder engagement, financial modelling and risk analysis. Where possible, on-the-ground capabilities will be developed to build long-term capacity for high quality projects in these markets.
The expansion is supported by EDB’s Carbon Project Development Grant, which aims to support early-stage carbon project development and financing activities for Article 6 carbon credit projects.
