On 18 January, urban and infrastructure consultancy Surbana Jurong (SJ) held the groundbreaking ceremony for its new global headquarters, Surbana Jurong Campus, in the Jurong Innovation District (JID). The 68,915 square metres development will be completed by 2021, and can accommodate up to 4,000 employees.
The campus’ location in JID will facilitate collaborations with research and development and capability developers, start-ups and technology enablers. It will also be located close to Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the SJ-NTU Corporate Lab, which SJ, NTU and the National Research Foundation Singapore set up in 2018. Some of the urban solutions research projects developed by the Corporate Lab will be trialled in the new campus before being commercialised.
Group Chief Executive Officer Mr Wong Heang Fine said the building of SJ’s global headquarters represents the company’s growth ambition, and signals its continued confidence in Singapore as a strategic urban and infrastructure hub. “Utilising the Group’s full range of capabilities to develop this project, the Surbana Jurong Campus will be a showcase of how we can support our clients to bring a development project from vision to reality,” he added.
The development of the campus is being fully funded by a $400 million investment from global financial solutions provider M&G Real Estate, as part of its Asian property strategy.
