Urban Solutions & Sustainability

REC established one of the world’s largest integrated solar manufacturing complexes in Singapore in 2010 and employs around 1,700 people in the country. The plant produces solar wafers, cells and modules for customers worldwide.

REC Solar is a Singapore-based solar panel maker that provides solar solutions for residential, commercial and utility properties. Most of its production is right here in a fully-integrated factory in Singapore. REC has always been known for its high quality, durability and reliability of the products. That's one key reason the company manufactures in Singapore with highly automated manufacturing – maintaining the high quality edge in the market.

The company receives support from Singapore, especially in R&D, together with the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore, SERIS. Much its research and development is jointly done with SERIS and universities in Singapore, which is an important competitive advantage for REC.

The world’s largest test site for floating solar is located in Singapore. The test-bed, which measures 1 hectare and costs about $11 million, is located at Tengah Reservoir in Tuas and studies the performance and cost-effectiveness of different solar systems. The floating solar testbed is ideal for Singapore, which has limited land resources for a sprawling experiment of this nature.
